Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is generally known as Congo virus. This viral disease is endemic in Africa and belongs from the family of RNA viruses. Congo virus is a hot and alarming issue in Karachi causing death of at least 6 persons till now in recent days, as Eid-ul-Azha is heading nearer and Muslims celebrate this eid in a tribute to Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) and his son Hazrat Ismail (AS) by sacrificing millions of halal animals.

This year the animals brought for this purpose reported to be suffering in congo virus (infection) in large no. which is an alarming situation for the authorities and the mortals.

WHAT CONGO VIRUS IS?

Congo virus is actually an infection which is spreading from the bite of a kind of a lice called (ticks) attached with the skin of animals and when a person comes close to the animal it can bite the person with in no time, and if the animal is badly infected it can also spread form the saliva of that animal and also by eating of its meat ,delay in proper treatment can cause death of infected person.

SYMPTOMS OF CONGO VIRUS?

the symptoms of Congo virus are very high fever,vomiting,headache,discharge of diluted blood from the body, loss of white blood cells.Symptoms are usually developed within 1 to 3 days after the bite and remains in the body for 5 to 7 days.

EXAMINATION AND TREATMENT

In case of above symptoms immediately consult an experienced medical practitioner for the proper examination and treatment, don’t take any self medication except “Paracetamol”.

PRECAUTIONS AND CARE

Always wear light color and full sleeves clothes properly buttoned or zipped.
Take shower twice a day and change clean and hygienic clothes where necessary.
SPECIAL MEASURES FOR BUYING AN ANIMAL

AND AT THE TIME OF QURBANI

Cover your nose and mouth with mask.
Cover your hands with gloves.
Always apply an insect repellent cream on open areas of your body.
Take shower and change clothes immediately after returning from mandi with an antiseptic soap.
These measures may also be applied at the time of qurbani.
